# Lead tag updated

> Understand lifecycle-status and custom CRM-tag changes in lead.tag.updated.

**Event type:** `lead.tag.updated`.

The standard [event envelope](/webhooks/overview#payload) contains these lead data fields:

| Field | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `leadId`, `campaignId`, `linkedinUrl` | Lead and campaign identity |
| `status`, `previousStatus` | Current and previous lifecycle status; previous can be null on the first transition |
| `customLeadStatus`, `previousCustomLeadStatus` | Current and previous CRM tag; nullable until assigned |
| `previousTag`, `newTag` | Legacy compatibility fields mirroring the status or CRM-tag axis that changed |

Use the explicit status/custom-status fields for new integrations rather than treating every `newTag` as the same kind of state. Receiving a sequence status in a webhook does not mean it is settable through [Update Lead Status](/api-reference/endpoint/patch-lead-status).

Verify the signature and deduplicate `eventId` before processing.
